International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Violence Related to Religion or Beliefs

August 22

22 August is the International Day of Remembrance for victims of violence related to religion or other beliefs. On this day we honour those who have lost their lives or suffered attacks, threats or persecution because of their religious beliefs. Too many people are discriminated against around the world because of their faith or beliefs. Persecution can take the form of restrictions on religious practice, threats or violence against those who change or leave their faith. No one should be attacked or persecuted because of their religious beliefs. Violence and harassment carried out in the name of a belief or religious practice can never be justified. It is important to maintain respect for all faiths and to stand up against intolerance and violence.
