150 Swedish companies were challenged on diversity and inclusion

When Diversity Charter Sweden invited to this year's diversity event, the so-called Signatory Event, it was in front of more than 40 new members. In addition, clear challenges regarding diversity were addressed from the stage to the approximately 150 companies that are now part of the network.

Although young people in Järva have the best school results in the whole of Stockholm, they are often forced to do internships at the local shop or pizzeria. One of the speakers at this year's event was Järva profile Mohamed Hagi Farah, who challenged the 150 or so member companies to take on trainees, act as mentors and provide summer jobs.

  • We want to be part of the new Sweden! We want you to count on us. We have over 100 different nationalities in Järva, speaking many different languages, and they can boost your exports. But the workers of the future need to be recruited now. Young people in Järva need internships, mentors and summer jobs," was Mohamed Hagi Farah's clear message.

Strong commitment to diversity

Diversity Charter Sweden is growing at a record pace and celebrated by signing up 40 new members. The more than 150 large and small companies and organisations that are currently members have in common their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • "If a company really works with diversity and inclusion, they should be a member of Diversity Charter Sweden. It's as much about gaining new knowledge as it is about contributing and sharing your efforts and knowledge," said Petra Karmteg, Chair of Diversity Charter Sweden, when describing why she is involved in the organisation.

For positive action

When asked how we can introduce young talent to the labour market, Shervin Razani, CEO of Jurek and one of the dragons on SVT's Draknästet, said he had several ideas, but the most obvious one is positive quotas.

  • I did not have a network when I started my entrepreneurial journey, it would have been incredibly important to be offered a link to the business world and the real world beyond Husby where I grew up. Therefore, at Jurek we always have a couple of internships dedicated to young people from Norra Järva or Tensta. It fills both CV and self-confidence and at the same time it enriches us at Jurek with other perspectives. A win-win in every way," concluded Shervin Razani, who was one of a total of six invited speakers at the Signatory Event.
