International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3
3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day focuses on the inclusion and participation of people with disabilities, who make up about 36% of the Swedish population. Disability can mean physical, mental or intellectual functioning. Disability is the restriction that a disability imposes on a person in relation to their environment. In 2017, the Swedish Parliament adopted a new national goal for disability policy, which clearly emphasises the link to human rights. Based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the goal is to achieve equality and full participation of persons with disabilities in a diverse society.
