I have now been working for Diversity Charter Sweden for just over six months and I have learnt so much. A big thank you to all of you. You have really been incredibly welcoming and willing to share your knowledge and experience. They are worth their weight in gold for me as a communicator.
It is a different way of thinking than what I was used to. In my previous jobs, where one of my main tasks was communication and PR, there have been one or more clear demands. These were demands for equal cancer care, a well-functioning rehabilitation after cancer and stroke. Our common demands are more subtle and less easy to write on a poster. Even though I don't believe in poster politics, it's a good way of thinking, that your message should be so simple that it can be written on a poster. I feel that our issues have a lot of support from the general public, which in itself is a challenge as it means that we don't really challenge or have a clear opponent. Then we have to work harder and smarter with storytelling, because we have a lot of fantastic examples of how successful diversity and inclusion are. That's where I need your help: give me your successful examples of how good diversity and inclusion is in your organisation. Together, we can then spread this information and thus bring greater focus on us and our issues.
I am looking forward to experiencing Diversity Month and the Signatory Event. Partly because they are absolutely fantastic events that I will learn an incredible amount from, but it also gives me the opportunity to create my own picture of how we can communicate about these events in the future.
Finally, I would like to form a network of communicators, where we can exchange ideas and tips on how to best disseminate knowledge and experiences on diversity and inclusion. If you are interested, or if you have a colleague who would like to join the communication network, I can be contacted via LinkedIn.
