This conversation was recorded on 28 February 2025 as part of Friday Knowledge - our knowledge series on diversity and inclusion.
Many people talk about inclusion, but how do we create workplaces where everyone feels welcome - regardless of gender identity? By highlighting trans inclusion and understanding the everyday lives of trans people, we can shape a work environment where everyone feels welcome. During Friday Knowledge, we'll go through common pitfalls and provide concrete tips on how to prevent discrimination and create a more inclusive culture. Whether you are a manager, a colleague or work in HR - this is knowledge you can benefit from.
Contributors:
- Christina Ahlzén, Gender Equality and Diversity Consultant at Medida - Provides us with insights from the latest research on trans inclusion and labour market challenges.
- Mr Lukas Romson, Equality Consultant and Trans Expert at Rätt OLika - Shares her expertise on the experiences of trans people and how we can create a more inclusive workplace.
- Magdalena Jacobsson, Operations Manager at Keolis - Talks about his experiences as a transgender person in the workplace and how employers can create a safer working environment.
Trans people face unique challenges in the labour market, from higher levels of unemployment and discrimination to a lack of research to support interventions. During Friday Knowledge, experts presented key insights from the Trans-Labor Market-Wallet report, which highlights the experiences of trans people in the labour market. The report points to factors such as reduced capacity to work, difficulties in living as themselves and exposure to harassment.
To create a more inclusive workplace, we need to both understand the barriers that transgender people face and actively work to fill knowledge gaps and counteract discrimination. An inclusive workplace leads to better business results, lower sick leave and a safer working environment for everyone.
