Can we use the law to drive successful diversity work?
In 2017, the requirements of the Discrimination Act were strengthened on HOW active measures on equal rights and opportunities should be pursued in organisations. The work must promote equal rights/opportunities, as well as counter harassment in all grounds of discrimination based on a given process with clear requirements for documentation.
How is it done in practice?
And how do we make it a live issue in our organisations?
To help us explain the law and how to apply it, we have two people from the Discrimination Ombudsman (DO);
– Sofie Rykowski lawyer in supervisory investigations in the field of labour, expert on behalf of the DO in the Swedish ILO Committee and in projects dealing with the dissemination of knowledge about active measures.
– Shrikant Ward investigator at DO, where he leads several projects on disseminating information & knowledge about the Discrimination Act and active measures.
We hear about the DO's mission and the ongoing projects to get more employers to work more actively with active measures.
- introduction to how employers should work with active measures according to Chapter 3, Discrimination Act. 2008:567.
- take advantage of the DO's digital guide: Guide to active measures against discrimination in employment which provides guidance, tips and concrete examples to employers, in the different areas employers need in their ongoing work.
Monica Westerberg Culture manager Skanska Sweden. Monica has an overall responsibility to build and strengthen Skanska Sweden's culture, values and sustainability area Diversity & Inclusion. Skanska Sweden is one of the initiators of Diversity Charter Sweden and thus one of our oldest members. They have long been at the forefront of working with diversity inclusion both locally and globally. We will learn about Skanska's diversity journey, focusing on their work with active measures, pitfalls and success factors.
If you have any specific questions on the subject for DO, please feel free to send in the by 11 January, we will do our best to answer them during the seminar. In the subject line, write "Question for DO".
