Europe Day

9 May is Europe Day, a celebration of peace and cohesion in Europe. This day marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration, when France's then Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed a new form of political cooperation in Europe to make another war unthinkable after the era of devastating wars. Today, Schuman's proposal is seen as the starting point for the European Union (EU), and Europe Day is a symbol of the common quest for peace, cooperation and unification across borders in Europe.
